Hey, curious what, opinion wise, is the phattest sounding amp out there for sale these days? I'm looking to upgrade what I have, but plan to keep the ampeg 8x10 cab that I own. Cheers!

My Mesa 400+ weighs like 45 pounds...I consider it Fat cuz I think it needs a diet! What kind of tones are you looking for. Warm, Bright, Growly, Hi-Fi...what makes and amp "Phat" for you? And how much can you afford to spend?

I own an ashdown amp right now, and i'm finding that it's not really cutting it for a huge tone, it's a really solid state-ish sound. I think i'd like to go for something with tubes with a really warm, full, yet punchy tone. I've looked at ampegs, and some of my favorite bassists use them, but i'm just curious what else is out there i suppose. Cheers.

How much are you looking to spend? Perhaps an all tube head will be the answer to your question...have you considered going rack mountable? Maybe you are better off getting a pre amp/power amp set up?

Get yourself a good preamp that gives you the phat sound you're looking for, then plug it into any amp and a good speaker. The sound person can take the same feed for the house sound.

Whatever you choose, beware of the phattest sounding rooms.

  15. From Urban Dictionary:
    Phat
    1. cool
    2. Pretty Hot And Tempting

Therefore, the phatest amp is the Sadowsky SA200.

I guess I should watch what words I use to describe sounds around here, obviously it's a touchy subject. What a warm community feeling. Thanks to those who took my inquiry seriously.

I'd skip phat and go right to pile drivingly heavy...everyone here knows that that's a step up from phat.
