You Need speakon cables. PJB sells some super heavy duty ones in 2 different lengths but there are cheaper options available (but none will be like the PJB speakons)/

Speaking of Speakon cables, my Six-Pak/9b stack came with the PJB cord, which I think is four conductor. However, I don't believe the M-500 output or the 9b input uses the extra copper (#2 +/- wire pair), correct? I don't have my cabs at home so I can't pull one of the back panels to check.

The cord I used when I was messing around with the full stack was from my 700rb, and that cable is far too long. I'm building one and found some old four-conductor cable to use *because I can* and not necessarily because I need to. Seems like a waste but it will be a closer match to the OEM cable in size (meaning it will look cool) and I can cut it to the proper length needed to stretch between both 9b cabs.

Any ideas? If not no worries.

Edit: Found it in the 9b manual (actually, it's the manual for all the Piranha-based cabs)! It seems that the output pins are run in parallel, with pin +1 connected to pin +2, and pin -1 connected to pin -2. This way all four wires carry juice for higher power handling.

    Raz

2nd. edit: This means powering a PJB cab with a 4-conductor cable using a GK head that has biamp capability is a no-no, or a sure-fire way to blow your treble side amp!

Bighead question -- it has a Fender style EQ where noon is pretty scooped and "flat" is with bass and treble turned down most of the way, right?

  6. I regularly use an 8 ohm C4 and 8 ohm C8 together. The speakers equally share the load which is totalling 4 ohms when both cabs are used together. See link below...

    https://geoffthegreygeek.com/multiple-speakers-share-power/

It won't matter (from your amp's perspective) whether you run 2 speaker cables from the amp to each speaker separately or daisy chain a cable from amp to 1st speaker cab then from that cab to another.

However, running 2 separate cables from your amp will halve the speaker cable resistance. (Though over short runs, I have yet to hear a difference)

The difference in volume in only adding 50% more speakers will be negligible. ~1.5db. Doubling the speakers only gets you 3db, which just starts to be noticeable.

I don't really agree with some of his parallel/series diagrams that show individual driver power "sharing". Regarding Phillip's post from two years ago, each speaker cabinet will see it's half of the amps power output - not each individual driver seeing an equal amount.

Many here obsess over this: "don't power a 410 and a 115 unless the 115 is rated close to or the same as the 410 blah blah blah" and similar arguments. It warrants consideration so as not to ruin your equipment (hence the concern over pairing a 4-driver cab w/an 8 driver cab) but if the performance of the cab with lesser power handling is not exceeded, there won't be a problem.

In fact, I've leveraged this in the past with a Buster! 210 combo I sat on top of a 410. The speakers in the combo were louder - but also angled upward - making it easier for me to hear them without driving the entire rig to excessive volume levels. YMMV.

While plugging up the old caster holes in my 9b, I heard something inside the cabinet. Took a guess, picked one of the handles to remove, and lo and behold...

    57876F56-E181-405F-A4BF-055D11B3BD9D.jpeg

When I first got the cab I heard something - turned out it was a toy "suitcase" that the prior owner's child hid in it. Seems like it wasn't the only thing, lol! I also checked the speaker connections and they are all fine; a few seemed slightly loose but they are still on there good so I'm not about pull all the drivers yet and crimp them. That's a project for another day.

Anyway, the cab is a little rough - probably has a lot of stories! Trying to get another 9b to use with my 700rb that will be coming back to me. Two PJB rigs, woohoo!

Looks like the previous owner was going for a more "scooped" tone out of that 9B......

I had a conversation with Jim Bergantino a few years back about power being shared and he stated no matter what speakers are being combined, the speakers will receive equal power. The rating to then pay attention to is the SPL. If one cab is rated with a higher sensitivity then it'll inherently be louder than the other cab, regardless of speaker size. Not arguing, just adding what I learned from him if it helps or not. YMMV.

UPDATE: See? If I'm the last commentor I can edit this! Just received a request from johnh89, so welcome aboard and post some rig/gig photos!

I get what you're saying Razman, it's no problem keeping up with the list, it's just that I used to be able to go to the most recent one, especially if it were on the same page, and edit that instead of filling pages up with the list. It's okay, I can see both sides of why TB mods want to limit edit abilities.

Welcome Hugsonic!, let us see those 4B and C4 cabs in action!

    QUESTION | Bass Cub BG-120 + non-PJB 8ohm extension cab

I am looking at getting a Bass Cub BG-120 for my home practice. I am wondering if anyone has experience hooking up a non-PJB 1x10/12/15 8ohm cabinet to maximize the 240 watt output for time you want a little more volume.

Of course, I could go the route of adding PJB extension cabs, but I have access to some non-PJB cabs here already. Appreciate any insight/experience you may have. Thanks.

I did something similar with my M500 and 8B neo cab by adding an Ampeg 112 cab. I was very underwhelmed halfway through the gig and pulled the plug on the 112.

There are too many threads on TB that explain it better than my poor noggin, but in my particular case, mixing PJB cab and other sized drivers was not a good thing.

That being said, I mix 10s, 12s, 15s all the time with (to my ears) pleasing results.

No experience with the Bass Cub but for home practice what would it hurt? Sounds like a fun experiment to me at home (and not at a gig - like Jeff, who probably should have known better )

Hey everyone, I’m new here. my red BG 400 just arrived today, I’ve only been able to play it for a few minutes so far so I didn’t get to big of an impression yet.

    this little guy is heavy!

anyways I’ll post more when I get into it but in the meantime, any opinions or experience running two instruments simultaneously through it? Wondering if the two channels would allow me and my brother to play guitar and bass at the same time.

also, maybe a crazier question but is it possible to run a head through this amp, somehow bypass the preamp section and use it as a cab essentially?

I’m pretty new to bass so I don’t know if these are crazy questions, basically I bought some gear that seemed exciting to me on a whim and I want to see everything that I can do with it!
Thanks everyone hope you are doing well
