My BG-120 Cub Pro may not be a lotta PJB gear compared to what I see sumya got here, but I think it still might rate a PJB Club# ?

Greywolf... I hear you... Welcome to the club (I think a very unique-- independent minded and forward thinking-- club... Hard for many to give themselves over to relinquishing 10s,12s, and 15/18s to embracing 4s, 5s, and 7s )
Sometimes I feel "inadequate" to be in this club with only my cab47... having said that, I can live vicariously through all of you with those incredible PJB rigs!!! They really have serious a WOW factor!!! ... That is a very serious compliment!
They look impressive, but I know from having my humble one C47 cab, that they must sound fantastic... Not just pushing air, but pushing sweet air!!
So proudly, brother, welcome to THE club!

The only PJB amps I own are embedded in combos. So to push my cabs, I have to use other amps. With my C8 and 6B cabs (not at the same time), I have used a GK MB200, TC Electronics BH250, Carvin BX500, GK MB500 Fusion, Genz Benz Streamliner 900, and most recently, a Mesa D800. Let me just say that I have never been disappointed in the sound produced by any Phil Jones device.

Last night my friend and I were doing comparison shootouts of a bunch of different heads and cabs (mostly guitar) and he asked me to bring my ibanez 5 string to compare with his schecter while we're at it. My acoustic image clarus was in the mix for guitar head comparisons, so I brought the C2 along for the bass demo. He was blown away by the amount of sound and low end the clarus + C2 put out :D mission accomplished

Can only imagine how the Acoustic Image Clarus pairs with PJB cabs

Read the fine manual for the BG-400 and don't see any specs on the headphone out. Mine doesn't appear drive my headphones well. They are AKG K245 rated at 32 Ohms. Any ideas?

Is like butter. But for rock tones, if I get to be picky, I might prefer the voicing from the TE Elf over AI Clarus. Now if only the Elf had that built in HP filter.....But at the end of the day I'm just happy to play with whatever [reliable] backline is offered if I don't have to lug any of my gear except maybe a preamp pedal

This makes sense. I am never keen on pushing an amp to near the max. Having the extra head room is good. I always been suspicious of these light-weight, low power amps being able to effectively push bass speakers.

Here is my favourite amp that will give you plenty of headroom. 800 watts of beautiful clean power at 4 ohms. Typically sounds great while being run flat. C23AD906-C288-4972-A873-C0740CBECF38.png

I am thinking of purchasing one or a Mark Bass head; I have had a lot of good experiences with the latter.

And if you bought a BP-800 you have a lot of good experiences with it.

I may be selling my BG-120 Cub Pro in about a month... It's the only amp/combo I have right now so I'll be practicing with it until my Ampeg PF350 replacement arrives mid Sept. But then..~~o_O?
The BG-120's a well made, excellent small combo and is right up there among the better pieces of bass gear I've been fortunate enough to own. But I'm finding I'm just not the clean, accurate, hi fi bass-sound type! ~I really miss my Ampeg amp :( and that's definitely telling me something...
In fact now I'm using my larger cab, Ampeg's PF-112HLF, as an extension to the BG-120 and that's sorta ridiculous right? -Probably defeats the whole purpose of the PJB concept and mystique, but sheeesh, it's giving me the sound I crave.. ;)

I'd be missing that Ampeg PF-20T really hard ....

Wish I needed the BG-120 right now. Timing, it's all timing. :meh: The Bass Cub Pro could power the pair of Cab 27s. GAS calls for a third Cab 27 and a Genzler Magellan 350 :cigar:

    No, I don't really miss the PF-20T I sold at all. It's tube tones were only marginally better than the PF350 amp (IMO), and the PF350 is more powerful and more all-around 'easy' to use w/o having the add complications of tubes. {~Not a popular opinion, I know... :rolleyes:}
But then even one of the Ampeg gurus I like and trust on the Porta Flex Club thread said the PF350 had the closest tones to Ampeg's tube stuff he'd ever heard, and in a blindfold test it could be very difficult to tell the PF350 apart from the PF-20T. -So I'm quite content with the capable little PF350... (~As long as the replacement doesn't break down again, that is!)

I'm too damn old now to care anymore about 'mystiques' and what's currently 'in'. ~Of course I greatly enjoy communicating with groups that like the same gear I do; -that's still definitely fun! But what pleases my ears and brain {with as little complications or fuss as possible} is now far more important to me than popularity when it comes to playing bass...

    [I don't drive stick shifts anymore. ~And I don't miss that either...]

Going to bring the 9b's, 700rb and M500 to band practice tonight. It all has been collecting dust long enough - should make for a fun evening. :bassist:
