i was looking through one of my bass player mags, and i happened across a monstrosity...it appeared in the form of a yamaha ad. there was this guy with an rbx 5 string dangling around his neck as if it were a pendant. and if that wasn't enough, they had several other shots of this guy displaying his virtuosity... have any of you other guys seen this...this...abomination? man, i'm off to download some taproot tunes. i'll either: 1.) be totally shocked out of my skin and go buy their latest disc or 2.) not be amused... :D

Weird, I kept telling myself: "Self, you should really get around to posting about how that guy from Taproot wears his bass funny..."

I can't picture wearing my bass that way. But, hey, if that's what works for him, more power to him. I also keep telling myself "Download some Taproot" but it will probably never happen.

ok...but what about the way he holds his hands?! good grief...

  4. Just wait until you hear the cd.. very dissapointing..

the singer needs to dump the tight jeans and get some singingclass..

the bassplayer needs to locate his " mids " knob on the bass

and the guitarist.. well.. blablalba !!

they need to hire a sound-engeneer too tho.. the sound sucks a$$... the only song on the cd i like is " over and over again "

I say option 2. The guy has pretty boring lines, and the guitarist uses too much distortion...making it sound really bad. The band as a whole have talent and they *could* be really good, but I highly doubt they will.

Although, I have had fun listening to some Taproot songs (such as "I," which is a pretty good song with a lot of potential, but it's missing a good solid bass line IMO), mainly because I "improved" on their riffs while listening to the song.

    But that's just my opinion.

  6. He doesnt have much skill but he adds a cool sound to taproot, smile would have an angry sound to it if it was for phils happy type of bassline in the chorus,he could be good, just doing what fits in the songs

  7. Look at the guy's left thumb in the Ad...Its hooked around the bottom side of the neck...If he plays like that, I imagine he'll be out of commission with wrist injuries in no time....

  8. I just got the Taproot album, despite the fact that it all sounds terribly similar, i think Phil does a reasonable job within the genre. I mean, it isnt all root not stuff, it's just kinda "nice"

  9. Haven't heard much of them, but the song, "Smile" has a really cool, refreshingly jazzy, bass line that repeats through the song.

When the Yamaha ads with Lipscomb started appearing in Bass Player, I called him "Norman the Skunkboy" because of that look on his face.

The most curious thing to me about the pic is that he's plucking the B string off the side of the neck, yet he's fretting the E on top of the fretwire  ....er, uh, "interesting" technique.

Critics call them just another rap-core band whose sound was already done by Korn. But I can't knock them because that joke Fred Durst hates them. He left a rant on the vocalist's answering machine when they didn't sign with the label where Freddy is a VP, Innerscope. The band made the message into a downloadable file.

Just hilarious! Here's the written transcript - http://www.lambgoat.com/features/phonemessage.asp - Will Fred be turning 8 or 9 on his next birthday????

  10. true, true, i but i saw them at ozzfest and they sounded a lot better, that's why i got the cd, i don't like it as much as i did the live show, his voice wasn't as bad live, on the cd it's too high pitched and gay.

  14. Maybe he was thinking gay as in happy, like a puppy with a new shoe to chew on.

And what's wrong with happy puppies anyway?!?!
