Piccolo?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Onur Francois Sengul, Jul 20, 2005.

  1. Hello everyone.

I was just wondering about piccolos.

I have an old ibanez sr400. Can i make it a piccolo by changing strings with proper ones? If yes which strings is the right choice.
    Do i need more modifications?

Thanks in advance. And sorry i dont know anything about piccolos :meh:

  2. Just get the lightest gauge strings you can find that will fit it and tune them up. Lighter string = less tension, so you can tune them higher (tighter) without breaking them or having very tight strings.

Good choice on the bass, the SR400 makes a great piccolo. I used mine as a pic for years. LaBella makes a good pic set and so does Ken Smith, those are the two brands I used.

  4. I'm thinking of ordering from Zon, their ultra sonic piccolo strings.

Is there any piccolo strings sold here in Istanbul? I've never seen one.

It's tuned an octave higher than a regular bass, so (assuming four strings) the notes are the same as the bottom four on a guitar. However, the tone and spacing will make the playing style different - it's not exactly the same as playing basslines on a guitar.
