I'm feelin lucky today. Can anyone recommend a 5-string set that feels incredibly smooth, decent growl, Medium tension (.045-.125), looks cool (I dunno, maybe shiny chrome or something), lasts a long time, good at slapping/popping, and works on a 35" scale. Oh yeah, preferably roundwounds, but no preference on conventional, tapered, and whatnot in the string design, except that they be round core. Make yourself feel useful today and help out this bass newbie!!!!

*edit* - oh yeah, I do mostly fingerpicking, never pick, and i want nice lows that can make a fat man dance, thanks.

Well, you've just limited yourself in terms of selection. Not too many string makers offer round core strings. Here's your choices that I know of:

    DR Hi Beams-Stainless Steel Roundwound
    DR Fat Beams-Stainless Steel Roundwound
    DR Sunbeams-Nickelplated Steel Roundwound
Dean Markley Rocco Prestia Signature Set-
    Nickelplated Steel Roundwound
    Fender 8250/8255-Nickelplated Steel Roundwound
    w/ Taperwound B and E
Thomastik Infeld Jazz Series-Pure Nickel Flatwound
    and Roundwound

Which Roundcore strings have you used before?

I would have recommended 45-130 for the tighter B.
