I've been searching through the archives and there are a dozen threads polling people about what size pick they use, but nothing specific.

I've always played fingerstyle and over the past few months I've been trying to learn to use a pick. Thinner picks seem to work best, I am using a .60 Dunlop Nylon right now and I like the even thinner ones (.48?) too. I use fingerstyle for most of what I play but when I want to play hardcore/punk I really need to get better with a pick. I have a lot of trouble going quickly from one string to another (even at moderate speeds). And I can barely play at all with a thick pick.
    Anyway,
    1. Why do most people seem to prefer playing with a thick pick?
    2. What is the best pick to use for playing fast?
    3. What's the difference between Nylon and Tortex?

    thank you

  2. 1 - Thick picks tend to have more rigidity , and more rigid picks give a brighter tone.

2 - Which ever one you prefer

3Basically, Nylon -Soft, Tortex - Hard.
