i was looking at a chrome pickup cover for my p-bass similar to what roger waters was using in "live at pompeii". what is the point of having a pickup cover though?

    FWIW:

the point to me is to protect the windings. Any ding in those fragile threads can affect pup performance. The removeable plastic covers do little else to my knowledge function wise. I scotch tape mine on cause I'm always swapping pups out so I'm handling them a lot. It's my understanding however that metal covers shield interferance. Can't remember what is but there's a tone issue as to why some guitar players remove the pup covers from some HB's.
