Hey All, Well i have finally picked up my Fender MIM P Bass Special, it is truly as mint as i'd hoped. Surprisingly I have taken a shine to the Black/Gold look. The setup was as near perfect for me as I could've hoped (had to lower the action slightly). One flaw which i hope some of you guys can help with. Around the J pup there is a little shielding paint on the black finish. to be honest it is hardly noticable, but i'm sure most of you will understand this will drive me nuts. Any ideas on how to remove this paint without any other damage. Pics will follow.
You might be able to scratch it off with your fingernail. You could also apply a little black model paint if you're careful.
But when doing either, be very careful. You dont want to do anything, or add a glossier finish with the model paint to any other part you originally didnt plan on.
If you're willing to take your time with various sandpapers and some buffing compound, there's no reason you can't remove the sheilding paing (assuming it's on top of the clearcoat) and then buff out any scratches left behind.
