I am seriously considering buying one of these low priced P copies, but wanted to find out if the pickguard is the same size and has the same number of holes as a Fender replacement pickguard.

I can buy the bass, add a red tortoise pickguard, ashtrays, and a SD QP pickup and have a killer vintage looking P bass for under $350!

Pickguards are never the same size and shape. I do believe it's like a headstock, it can never be the exact same shape. I'm sure you can have one made for you, but it'll be about $100. You'll probably have to stick with the original.

  3. www.pickguards.com will do custom PGs for a lot less if you send them a tracing. It's a standard P bass guard, so the only thing that might be different would be the screw holes and the pick up placement.

IIRC, $15 is what they charge, but I could be wrong. I just know $100 sounds awful high.

Check on the Rondo Music Website, I know they sell B/W/B and W/B/W pickguards that fit the P, so they might have a Tort guard. Also the 3 ply guards or only like 7 bucks or so. Basses aren't the only things that are a bargain there. I was considering an Essex P (black w/ a B/W/B guard) but found a Squier II on Ebay for close to the same price and opted to go with that.
