hey everyone. i was just considering possibly removing my pickguard just to shake things up and give my bass different look. but my question is, will it be a problem? the holes won't become a major effect of the sound or anything? it my be a dumb question, but thanx for all answers. jimbo
Depends on the bass... Removing the pickguard from my Jack Casady enhanced it's appearance. Jaco's basses looked very cool sans pickguard... On a P-Bass, you might have a problem like sic mentions... MIM Jazz basses have a pocket routed for the neck pickup rather than a close fitting route, so that might look lame. As to affecting your sound, naw... -robert
I took mine off my Am Std Jazz and it didn't look good because there is this hole filled with rubbing compound that is the size of a quarter and is about an inch deep. No tone differences though...
I had a mate who wanted to put a thick metal plate as his pick guard. Like that industrial plating u get on steps etc. Twit. But then we did Acrylic and plastic work, and he decided to try and make a clear pick guard with colourd bits in it. Too much green for that young man! Merls
yeah fill out yer fargin profile or we cant answer your question!!! Heres some advice: If you have a P-bass, no. The knobs are mounted on the pickguard, and the pickguard covers the control cavity. If you have a MIM Jazz bass, no because the neck pickup has a big space around the pickup route that looks ugly without a pickguard on it. If you have an MIA Jazz bass, yes because it'll look like Jaco's bass. If you have some other bass, then there's only one way to find out...
thanx everyone, i have a real crappy, unknown type of bass. but i'm gonna try it and see how is comes out. and now i'm gonna fill out my profile jimbo
