pickup covers

  1. what are the point of pickup covers? do they change your tone?, reducing humming? or are they just there to look cool?

  2. pickup covers just look cool...they also serve as a means of keeping your pickup coils intact (via potting with wax or epoxy).

Covers without exposed pole pieces also act to keep your strings from physically contacting the pole pieces (creating an annoying "popping" sound

Or are you talking about the metal "ashtray" covers like on vintage Fenders?
