pickup help

hey guys
i have ordered an olp mm3 musicman 5 string bass and have made some enquiries as to relacing the pickup and tone system. I have a price of 239.95 australian dollars for the smb-5d system i think its the ceramic version. do you guys think i should go for it!. also this system has 3 knobs is that correct, i only want the 3 knobs as i dont want to have to buy a new pickguard. BUt can a luthier drill through a pickgaurd to add a 4th knob??
