Pickup ID

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by Hambone, Oct 2, 2000.

  1. I've been playing a lot on my Fender *MIJITSO 62 Jazz recently and I am coming to a weird conclusion. I think that it has replacement pups in it. I bought the bass at a pawn shop so wasn't privy to all of the changes that the previous owner might have done. But as I play it, I can't believe the punch and clarity of the tone, seemingly more so than my 2 other active basses.

So the question is this - Given that these are very standard looking pups from the front, are there any other give away characteristics in winding, color, materials or anything that I would be able to use to ID these things?

I have a MIJ '62 P Bass, the pickups are so good on this I thought at first they were replacements.
A good pal of mine works for Fender here in the U.K.
He took my bass and got it set up properly.
Now,he says he has it on good authority that the MIJ re issues actually used the U.S. pickups!
    So,they probably are standard.
BTW my P is one of the best playing basses I have ever had!
