    Ok heres the scoop.

    Bass: Spector NS2000 Q5

    Stock electornics:
EMG BTC control 2 band EQ/pre with 2 volume knobs
    (2) EMG 40HZ passive pickups

I have found out by testing and logical deduction that one of the EMG40HZs is defective, I have swapped the bridge and neck pups before to check to make sure it wasn't electronics.

One of the pups is ouputting a crackling sound on occasion, not always, but sometimes. It is very annoying, and is disastrous when in the studio. Any ideas on why the pup is doing this?

If its not fixable, then my options are this:
    a) buy a new EMG 40hz and just replace (the easiest)
    b) buy a new EMG active pup (but then I would need to buy a 2nd pup to match, and I have not alot of money thatd be like $200) I'm thinking a 40DC in neck and 40CS in bridge.
c)Other pick up brands/alternatives that will fit in 40mm hole? Is there another brand that would be better/cheaper for my needs?

Basically, is it worth investing in a new set of pups, or should I just buy a replacement 40HZ.

    Thanks for reading..
