Hi everybody. This is my first post....

I've decided to get back into playing bass, and need some recommendations on pickups.

I'll be playing an Alder bodied, aluminum neck P bass. Possibly strung BEAD.

Maybe I'm just buying into marketing hype, but I like the idea of the extra frequency response on the Duncan Quarter Pounders. I'm also considering the Dimarzio Split P.

I've done some research, and I know my best bet is going to be to just buy some pups and give them a try... But what else should I be considering?

    Thanks in advance.

Yup. From a Hartke, made by Vacarro. Got it on the cheap, and have always wanted to try one out.

  4. I've seen those necks before. Well articles online about them. And the company that made them. From what I understand, there is allot of aluminum inside them.

And what I have read here and else where. Aluminum tends to bring out allot of mids and highs. On the extremely bright side of things. When used as a pick guard on p-basses, etc.

With that in mind I would look for a pick up with enhanced lows. Electronics to match, wether active, or pot / cap selection. I would look to "muddy" it up. Just my thought on what I've read on aluminums tone charcteristics. Many pickup manufacters have various specs on the same shapes. To help with wood tone etc. So one with ehanced ranges like: high, mids, lows, over frequency range and / or comabations of any or all.
