My defretted Squier Deluxe Jazz V, passive VV-TT controls, using the stock single coil J-pups.

I've been feeling that the tone seems a bit harsh & trebly. I wind up turning the tone down on the bass by 1/2 and the Treble on the amp as well in order to get a smooth tone.

Starting to think that these pickups just aren't optimal for a fretless tone. Your thoughts?

What would stacked hummers like the Duncan SJB-3 pups fo for my tone?

or, what I was thinking....Since I want to get the hot & heavy QP's for my Affinity (I want an aggressive tone for my fretted instruments, stems from playing a Stingray and an L2500 for 12+ years)...

I currently have the Duncan 67-70's's in the affinity (same pickups as in the Fender Active 24V

I could swap these into the fretless. Yes, I'd have to do some extra routing; that doesn't bother me.

    looking for anyone's $.02

  2. I have many fretli, I like Bartolini soaps with a piezo and classic Barolini PJ pickups.
