I am building a fretless 6 string. I know that i want to use one bridge position pick up only, with an on board preamp.

I am clueless about pickups and preamps. I have done some research on Bartolini's but still do not really have a grasp on the sonic differences.

If some of you can recommend a pick up/preamp combination that you like( and why) please let me know.

I love the sound of my Smith 6 bridge pos with preamp...anything out there that might get me close ?

    thanks...:)

Why don't you buy a Smith pickup for it?

Smith doesn't sell parts anymore- so I'm told.

One of my students told me the other night about an aguilar on board preamp that is very small. heard of it ?

yeah check www.aguilar.com for the OBP3

i bet you could find some smith p/u's used - otherwise you should give AERO a call - they'd probably custom wind you anything you'd like. they're great!
