I'm planning an upgrade on the pickup for my stingray copy.
what are the most suitable pickups that the various companies have on offer?

So far i've only found recommendations for the Seymour Duncan SMB-4 for Music Man® Bass .

    How about EMG and bartolini?

i like my sound more bright than warm with lots of punch.

the companies out there with replacements include:

    Seymour Duncan
    Mighty Mite (cheapest)
    Kent Armstrong
Lane Poor (out of business, expensive to pick up used)
EMG (don't think they're out yet, just got announced)

I had the SD replacements in a musicman, and it tamed the harshness of the highs and gave a warmer bottom end. I have a Lane Poor MM in my Modulus Flea 5, sounds great.

Bartolini make the most number of MM replacements, they have different windings for deeper or brighter sounds. Also, they have two / three coil windings to give you as much versatility as you want.

You could check out luknfurs mm pickup review thread

Bottom line, they're all 'suitable' - it just depends what type of sound and/or switching options you want.
