What pickups would give an ash jazz bass body a nice vintage tone? I was thinking of buying some CS60s just because I know I like them but I don't think I've ever heard them on an ash body, any suggestions?

  5. If you want straight Vintage Single coil tone I recommend these: http://www.bassstringsonline.com/Aguilar-60s-Era-Jazz-Bass-4-String-Pickup-Set_p_2198.html
If you talk to Jason then set up an account you will get them for $126.65
I personally bought the noiseless models for $169.94. I have had Fralin split coils, Fender Split Coils and Seymour Duncan Split coils and even though they sound good they do not have the Vintage Single Coil tone. These sound pretty darn close to the Aguilar 60's single coil but with zero noise as advertised. Nice balanced tone. http://www.bassstringsonline.com/Aguilar-Hum-Canceling-4-String-Jazz-Bass-Pickup-Set_p_1634.html

Ash or alder, it makes no appreciable difference as far as I'm concerned. They're similar densities. I have an ash 76 Precision and an alder 09 AmStd Precision with the same P pickup, and one even has a rosewood fretboard and the other maple, and they might as well be the same bass when you plug them in.
