Pickups with different impedences on teh same bass

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by Kraig99, Nov 16, 2002.

  1. Will this work? I am thinking about putting EMG Select P pickup with a Custom Shop Parts MM pickup on my frankenbass. The EMG Selects are at 8.1K ohms, while the Custom Shop Parts MM is at 11.46 ohms. Does this make much of a difference? With the EMG Select be louder than the other because of the lower impedence? Thanks in advance for any replies.

    Hey Kraig99,
Impedance matching with pickups won't any difference unless you are trying to achieve hum-cancelling from two single coils (Like a Jazz Bass) Also, with pickups, The higher the impedance, the louder or hotter the pickups (Not the same type of impedance as speaker when matching with a head)

MM pickups are LOUD period and will be hotter than your P-Bass pickup, even if you put the MM in the bridge.

There is much more to this explanation obviously but that should answer your question.
