  1. Here is a pic of my modified MB2. The jazz pups are DiMarzio ultrajazz.

I gigged the thing for the first time last night with an acoustic blues duo (I sat in with them). wonderful! The original MB2 sound is there, and when I wanted something rockier, I just flip the switch and the Ultrajazz pups kick in...

Damn... How much did you pay for the upgrade?
  3. First, I am glad you look on it as an upgrade. Most reactions so far have been criticising me for "ruining the instrument's originality".

The pickups cost me about 100 dollars, and the routing about 30. I did the wiring myself.

Some things are expensive, some cheap here in Turkey.
  4. Andy,
Beautiful looking bass. I love the quilted maple.

I thought my GAS had been cured, not so sure now.

now thats one good looking bass.
nevermind what they say Andy, if it works for you it's great and remember that ppl who are concerned about originality are searching after the best re-sale value and not after the best tone.

btw, how much is a Rob Allen MB2 in Turkey? I couldn't find one here in Israel.
  6. I got mine 2nd hand. They are not otherwise available here.

Andy, that bass is simply gorgeous. The Rob Allen basses have always been my dream fretless basses, but I have never really considered them because I am a Jbass man at heart. Yours looks like the perfect solution. My dream Rob Allen would look identical to yours, minus the neck j style pickup. What a great upgrade! How about a sound sample?

That is one fine-looking bass :D! I feel another GAS attack coming on.....

    I'll bet it sounds great!
  10. If the original tone is still there, and you have access to new tones, then I'd definitely say it's an upgrade.

Great looking bass too, by the way.
  11. Congrats, Andy, what you have done is the perfect logical mod. Looks great, and I doubt it would make any difference to the value. You might inspire Rob to a new model!! Are you using the TI's on this one?
  12. Thanks for the compliments everyone...

Marty, I use the original LaBellas on it. They just suit the bass perfectly. Actually, I sometimes feel the bass was designed around the string!

Sound samples? I still haven't worked out how to record on computer....
