Hello all, Yesterday I was reading a thread about Pino, and someone recomended the John Mayer Trio Live CD (with Steve Jordan and Pino) and I checked it out on CD Universe. From the clips I was impressed, and figured i'd order it soon.. Well, last night, after practicing for 2 hours, I was bored and decided to turn on the tube. I went to letterman, and low and behold, he holds up the cover the the John Mayer Trio Live CD, saying that they were going to perform. I quickly grabbed a tape and started tapin'. Pino played sick nasty-nasty, rarely even looking down at his P bass! Did anyone else see this bass legend perform on the Late Show last night?! Chris | glad i taped it.
Bummer, I had the show on but I just saw John Myer trio in the tv guide and decided to turn the channel ( I do like john Mayer by the way), not knowing that pino would be playing. Can ya send me a copy?
Im going to be looking out for a streamed video of it on the internet, so i can post it here. If all else fails, I would be happy to mail you a copy. If someone had tivo, maybe they could upload it and stream it... i dunno how that works though.. the song they performed was "Who Did You Think I Was?" Steve Jordan was just spankin' that kit of his. Also, I knew Pino was badd, but i didn't know he was that badd, especially live... It was sick.. Chris
Excellent tune last night! I'm heading out to pick up the CD as we speak. I was very disappointed that the tour never showed up in Detroit.
I checked John Mayer's website, and it said that the John Mayer Trio will make the following TV Appearances: CBS This Morning on Monday, December 19 Late Night With Conan O'Brien on Monday, December 19 Chris
I picked up the CD a couple of days ago based on my appreciation for Pino and especially Steve Jordan. I was very disappointed in the CD... sounded like a decent bar band doing covers of Stevie Ray. It's not horrible, just average, which is disappointing given the line-up.
I havent heard the cd, but the performance was really good... Pino seems to be doing more touring here recently.... Chris
+1 I bet the trio is fun to watch and see live... it just doesn't seem to translate to disc very well IMO. I saw John with the HeadHunter's 05 a few months ago, and he sounded great and was very entertaining in a live setting.
Ken, are you high?!?! Pino is killin' on it. L:isten to Vultures again and the groove....... I would love to hear bar bands that sounded groovy like that. Anyway.....wasting my time in B'Ham Alabama!!!! BTW Ken, I did pick up that Sadowsky in that picture I e-mailed you. Back in Sadowsky land!! Now back to or topic........Pino swings on it like crazy!!!
Ken, I'm with Mike on this one, the disk is spinnin as I type. Mike welcome back to Sadowsky land, it's like you never left. Pictures?
I'm transcribing a bassline by him right now. "Where I lay my hat" by Paul Young, nice bassline, terrible song.
Yeah, I was listening to it on the plane on the way back from B'Ham tonight. It takes a listen or to to really grab ya. Great disc. Slight hijack: Here ya go Steve Just needs a D-Tuner and a VTC (both of which are coming!)
As a devout follower of Mr. Mayer and his work, I've been pretty damn impressed with "Try!". I think the recording quality could be better, but I think they chose not to polish up the sound too much. That's very much what the group is about, it's about being a little "dirty", in a good way. He's try to get away from the "polished" sound of his pop stuff. Although, I thought he did bring sensibility to Pop, IMHO. I've seen them live (opening night at the Filmore in SF, actually), and I plan on seeing them again on the day before New Years Eve in SF with Phil Lesh. I do think that it's hard to capture the energy and "raw" sound that they have live on a CD, but for what the CD is, I think they did a decent job of translating the message that they are going for... That they are bad asses...
I picked up the John Mayer album a few days ago, and I really dig it![sorry Ken ] It sounds like a live album, and not many live albums are live anymore....if you know what I mean. ............... BTW Very nice Sadowsky Mike!
Different opinions is what makes the world go round! It definitely does not suck at all... just didn't blow me away. I agree with Mike... there are some high groove points.... but the tunes, the sound, etc. are just not inspiring to me. One thing it did do was make me appreciate again how smoking some of the early Stevie Ray and Robbin Ford stuff is
Guys..there are like 10 new live video cuts from a concert in NYC on AOL my music right now. I watched it last night, and they are SMOKIN.
