PJ's that can both P and J

    i was looking for a 5 sting that maybe can do a great rendition of a p AND a j. so let me know your opinions!

    My guess would be that a PJ can only "P" and "1/2 J"

    ok some clarity... i am only intrested in the rear pickup jaco growl.... sorry for the confusion!:D

    I'd look into the Stu Hamm Urge II bass, both sets of pickups, P bass in the middle flanked by two Jazz pickups. It was a limited edition, so you may want to look arund on ebay.

    Isn't there a pair of single coil pups in the bridge position on the deluxe? And the deluxe can't go passive?

    Fender Roscoe Beck V. It pretty much nails the J tone. It doesn't give an exact Precision tone, but IMO the neck pup in series has some woolly thud much like a P-bass.

    I used to own one of these babies, and it did a marvellous job at what you're looking for.
    They can usually be found for about 450.
