Hello everyone. I've decided to buy a new bass and that one is a Sire. I have enough money to buy the V3, but should I save up and buy the V7? I have tried out both at the Chicago Music Exchange and liked both of them. The only reason I don't like the V7 is the glossy neck but that's it. Which would you go with?
If you liked them both, I'd go with the V3. The V7 has "nicer" woods, but if the V3 gives you the sounds you like and has the neck feel you prefer, I'd say that's the way to go.
When I bought my Sire V3 (Gen1), I bought it because I too preferred the satin finish neck and the particular finish (the mahogany finish. I believe it's also a little lighter in weight. I could have bought the V7 but still opted for the V3. They both have the same preamp and EQ system. Now I had never tried either bass before, only after owning the V3 for a few months did I get to try a used V7 at a store, the V7 sounded a little warmer, the V3 more aggressive - based more on impression than anything as I couldn't compare them side by side - I didn't have my V3 with me. Both are good basses and I'm happy with my V3, you can't really go wrong with either choice. You got to try both basses side by side and compare. If the V3 was good enough to make the decision difficult, and unless there is something you found you prefer on the V7 then maybe the V3 might be the bass to get given your preference of the neck.
