I need some help. I bought this Marshall EL34 100/100 from eBay supposedly brand new but it came with a "used" sticker price tag right on it. I believe it might be Guitar Center by the "OurPrice" marking but I'm not sure...

I am in the process of opening a dispute, I've actually already been in touch with ebay, Paypal, my credit card and actually my attorney just to protect myself. The seller has tried to wash his hands of it.

The seller tried to blame the numerous scratches and dents on the "little old lady who packed it up at FedEx" which FedEx denies (there was no shipping damage) as they have viewed their videotape of the actual packing of the amp showing it wasn't damaged by them. I have all of that documented.

I'm just getting all my ducks in a row, and I'm trying to narrow down where this amp was on sale as a used amplifier.

Anyone recognize this price tag style?

    Thanks!

Contact Marshall with the serial number and they can tell you when it was manufactured. Looks like 2013 though, which is my mind is not a 'new' amp.

    Do not despair.

They will ensure you get your money back.

Btw, do you have the digital pre that goes with it? Nice set up

No, I use tube power amps for bass.

I realize it was made in 2013...but hell I have new amps and basses from the 90s still NOS in their boxes that I've collected. 2013 isn't old. I have a friend at SamAsh who is calling Marshall to trace it nonetheless.

I've tried Guitar Center, MusicGoRound, Interstate Music, Wade's Guitar Shop, Dave's Guitar Shop all in the Milwaukee area. So far no luck tracking the used sticker that is on it.

Just for kicks, do a google search for the inventory number under the bar code.

Heck, I have a bar code app on my phone. I’d hit it with that and see if it coughed up anything other than the inventory number.

I tried that...nothing comes up. It's just the amp's serial number anyway.

I think it is a GC sticker, too.

I thought so originally but I had a manager run the serial number for the entire GC chain...it didn't come from them.

If the seller is obstinate, ebay will refund you anyway. It straight up says used on it, it is not as described if described as new. People abuse the new/used tags a lot and need calling on it.

Maybe Music Go Round? But at first glance it looked like a GC sticker to me too.

    I have found new information.

Marshall has responded. Marshall has researched this amplifier's serial number, M20130704952. Here is this amp's true history. This amp was returned to Marshall in 2017 for problems/issues/repair and sold as B-stock in 2017 to a retailer. It was not sold as new. This explains the chewed screwheads.

I have located the store that this amp was being sold as a used amp; this is where it received the sticker in the original post. It was Cream City Music. The seller sold this amp to them then bought it back a day or two later "to get more money" on or about May 17, 2019. The store has agreed to verify their documentation. They were surprised at the seller's actions in this. They seem to be a great establishment; this isn't their fault.

That makes me at least the 5th owner of this amplifier. It was B-stock as of 2017 and it was owned by Cream City Music, the seller twice, and finally me.

Everyone involved has agreed to allow their contact information be part of the upcoming dispute.

I offered the seller that I would keep the amplifier for a partial refund of $500. I feel that is fair as he would lose hundreds in shipping just getting it back (since he would also lose the original shipping costs). It's absolutely not new but as a used amp it is not bad....but it is unacceptable for the price I actually paid.

If he doesn't respond or refuses I will submit the dispute tonight. I feel I have an iron-clad case now.

    Thanks for everyone who helped!

Even without everything you’ve done Ebay would have gotten your money back. They always side with the buyer.

Could be GC I've got one of their tags on my file cabinet, and it's stuck on blue painters tape like that.

Impressive. Can I PM you the next time I need resolution to a dispute? Thats some sleuth work in no time at all. Curious why all the trouble though of lawyers? Ive heard that ebay sides w the buyer 99% of the time in disputes and if you used paypal they process the refund.

Just because of the high dollar amount; I've had eBay in years past pull some shady stuff. I once tried to return a Dokorder metal take-up reel that was supposed to be new/sealed and when I got it it was in a clear bag taped shut and the reel looked like it was slid across sandpaper. Since the description said "sealed" and it was in a plastic bag they denied the dispute. I still have that damn reel.
