    Hey There TBers,

I am starting work on a 7-string bass and would like to poll those of you who are willing on what body style I should use. In all honesty I don't have much experience (or interest up to this point) in these type of extended range instruments but I got this bridge for a very good deal and I have a bunch of sets of eucalyptus that I want to use for a book matched top/back on a nice bass. So while some of my other projects are drying/curing I am starting this one up in the hopes to learn a bit more about this current trend. The options are below along with pics of what the euc looks like when finished and a pic of the spalt ambrosia maple I am using for the body. (I've used thumbnails since the files are so large and I don't want to clog up peoples download speed. Just click for the big image.)

I'd also love to hear some tips/preferences from anyone that plays a 7 string and wants to share their info on comfort, weight, and what type of neck carve you like best. I know I can do a search on these topics and probably will but just wanted to leave the thread open to those type of responses as they may be relevant to your reply.

    Option #1: SF3 Body Shape

    Option #2: SF1 Body Shape

    Option #3: SF5 Body Shape

I voted for the singlecut, 'cause I've jumped all over that bandwagon. I think they are fantastic looking myself.

But on a side note, drop the Eucalyptus for this project and just use the Spalted Ambrosia Maple uncovered.

or better yet, use alder for the body and send that piece of rotten maple to me and I'll "dispose" of it for you . :D
  9. for the love of god don't get sf5

unless you really really really like it :bag:

The first 2 look like Warwicks. A fortress and a Dolphin.

Pretty much all of my stuff (singlecuts included) is inspired by the Dolphin. The fortress resemblance is only coincidental though, I've never really cared for anything by Warwick other than the Dolphin.

Also, we have the same birthday, Woodchuck... so bully for that.

Jeez, I am suprised to see the SF1 dominate by such a large margin! Thanks for the responses so far, everyone. :)

Imo you should dump that Euc and use the Ambrosia maple for a bookmatched top and back. its beautiful... as for design, i picked the first one. i am drawn to singlecuts a lot... but (no offense) i just dont like that one.
  14. i think the order is the same as you posted

I can spare a set if you'd like one. I have to warn you though, they are very thin and you'll have to get creative on the template layout to avoid some funky knot things. They actually look pretty neat but I just don't feel like filling them myself and prefer this other grain orientation anyway.

option 1 seems the most unique, so i'd go for that one.
