    Hi!
I have received my second ever set of upright strings. I play a lot of slap in a touring folk/rock band in Australia.
The set I got is D'addario Helicore pizzicato in 3/4 - I have found that the G is much more dull than the rest of the set (problem?), and while the D, A and E are nice and bright, the E has a bad distortion-like buzz going on (like a small wire vibrating rapidly). I use a Schaller magnetic pickup, and I have checked for loose wires all over - it is in fact the string itself.
Are these problems common? This is my first time replacing strings (and it's been 8 years) and I would like to know how to solve the G and E string problems if I could have some help. Thanks in advance everyone :)

How do they sound acoustically? Do you hear the buzz on the E? Does the G sound duller acoustically?

What strings were you coming from? Could the nut or bridge possibly be cut too thin?

Are you sure you do not have any open seams? I once thought I had a bad A string but found out the A string made the open seam vibrate worse than the other strings. I glued her up with Hide glue, problem solved.

  5. Josephine from D'Addario customer service is a member of this board and posts frequently. She's also a very nice lady. If this is definitely a string issue and not an open seam/gremlin/etc. then she may be helpful to you.

I don't use D'Addario strings on any of my uprights at the moment, but I have in the past. They are a really good company with excellent products and stellar customer service. Josephine is a great contributor to that service and to these boards.

First, make sure it's not a problem with the bass or the installation, but if you have a defective string (it happens), I'm sure Josephine will have your back!

Wishing you the best in tracking down and fixing the problem!
