Please help identifying this Kramer.

  1. Noob bassist here.
    My brother gave me this bass yesterday and I am not sure which model it is. It's a Kramer, but I am not sure which model.

    That J pickup is super noisy.
    I think there is a problem with it.
    When I flip the switch to the middle or J position it becomes static city. But still, it sounds pretty epic.

    That's another indication that the J pickup is an add-on. The Kramer models from that period that had J pickups used DiMarzios that were hum-cancelling and had the same adjustable polepieces that the P pickup does.

    I had the DMZ5000 from that '79 catalog--my first good bass--and they do sound pretty epic!
     
  5. so, i used a different cable. noise gone.
    i am actually pretty grateful for that J pickup now.
    This thing is awesome.
