So I'm ready to buy a new amp, my band will start playing shows in a few months and it's time for me to upgrade from my 15W Crate...I never really needed a real amp yet because they already have amps at our practice studio. I went shopping a little and I'm hesitating between a Mesa Walkabout, a Ampeg b5r and a Ampeg b2r...I'm not 100% sureabout 100% for the cab, but I'll probably get the Ampeg bse410hlf...other suggestions are welcome too..

if that can help...I play a Ibanez gsr200 bought in 2000, I play pretty much anything but mostly metal..

    How much can you spend?

Do you want rack with pre and poweramp or a head?

    some guidlines I would suggest:

get at least 400w into 4ohms or higher, for cab get at least a 410, couple of 112s or 115.

everyone loves to suggest what they use and so will I!!! :p

Tech21 RBI preamp $300new, 150-200 used. (or bass DI 3ch pedal $200 NEW!!)
    Stewart 1.2 (1200w into 4ohms) $650 new, Used??
    SKB rack 4space $75
    Aguilar gs112 $375new x 2 used?
    tech21 410 cab $520 new

I'd suggest an avatar 410 unless you are completly sold on the ampeg.

Heres a link to Dave's site www.avatarspeakers.com budget cabs made of high quality materials.

Alot of guys love em here on TB so I do suggest you take a look, for about the same price of the ampeg 410 you wanna get I bet you could get 2 cabs from avatar speakers for the same price or so.

Out of the amps you listed I'd go with the b5r, but personally I'd go with either a kustom groove bass 1200 or a pre/power amp set up.

You can find a qsc rmx 1450 power amp for around 330$ NEW it puts out 450 watts into 4 ohms and you can bridge it for 1400 watts into 4 ohms.

I also +1 the tech 21 sansamp rbi 300$ new.

Find your self a good skb or gator rack case for 70$ and you're set.

Hope this helps some, if ya need anymore help just ask or you can send me a PM.

I want to spend 2000$ (Can.) max. I really don't know what to choose, I'll probably go try them before. Anybody have actually tried those amps /cab ?

Personally, I think a Yorkville YBA200 & an Peavey cab(or 2) would suit you quite well.

do you have money to burn??? PM me and I'll put it to use... JK!

I own and love the RBI,STEWART, AGUILAR 112 x2. I almost have two rigs almost identical.

If you're not as picky as some on this forum, you'll probably think it sounds great and I believe it does.
