I happened on this in a local GC. I’ve always liked Sterlings for their compact body. I started looking online and this one seems a bargain priced at the bottom of the scale for comparable examples and is in VGC to my eyes. Experts please weigh in. What’s the year of manufacture? What’s the current market value? {} {} {} {} {} {} {}
As a seller I’d ask for 1k, as a buyer I’d try to pay 900. Ernie Ball’s forum has a section where they will date your Musicman and tell you where it was purchased from. Pretty cool!
I’ve placed a deposit to hold it. The tagged price is $899.99. I guess my instincts were good, as I’m not knowledgeable in regard to Music Man. Thanks for weighing in.
If you like the sound of Stingray 5, the Sterling is the best way to get that sound in a 4 string package. Series mode+ceramic pickup=bass heaven IMHO. Phenomenal necks on these basses as well.
That's a great bass, and a very good price. To me the older ones sound better, and feel better. I have one vintage Sterling and one newer model. I like the older one the most. The one you are looking at is from the first years of production, mid 90's. You can get the actual date off the Music Man website. The wood on this neck is soooo fine.
Inset neck plate with small-plate bridge says ‘96-‘98 or so. Great basses, I have fretted and fretless ‘95s (with the muteless version of the big-plate bridge). Great figured woods in use back then.
