Hi, i've been lurking all the forums to find a a pedal that meets my needs. I need the most dry, aggressive, wicked distortion pedal around, i want to use it mainly for solos, and i don't necessarily need to retain low-end. I definitely dislike fuzz-like sound, i'm looking for something really dry and sharp, with a lot of attack. I already have on my pedalboard an Ibanez Tubescreamer Ts9-DX that i use for riffing, but even with tone and drive cranked to 10 i can't find that cracking sound i'm looking for solos. I have read around that an old rat unit could suit my needs, or maybe a boss ds-1 with the keeley mod, but i can't find any clip of those pedals full cranked with a bass plugged in. Do you have any advice for me?
+1 for the Tech 21....I've never owned one...but played through a few.....I think thats what your looking for.
I asked this question before on the forum but it never got answered: How does the XXL Bass compares to the BDDI just used as a distortion stompbox. I had the BDDI for a week on loan. I got a very cool distortion sound out of it. But to use just as a distortion stompbox, is the XXL Bass what I'm looking for? I think I had the drive knob full open, presence knob almost full open, bass and treble at noon and blend arount 2 o'clock. Can the XXL Bass get me a similar distortion, or is the distortion of the two units a completely different animal?
Thanks for all the advices, i'll look for an XXL and give it a try. Anyways one pedal i was really curious about is the Robert Keeley modified Boss DS-1, i found some samples on the internet but no bass samples. Does anybody have it? It would like so much to hear some samples...
They are nothing alike. The BDDI cranked is cleaner than the XXL with the gain at minimum. However, the XXL absolutely shines when put in line before a BDDI. Both are great by themselves but they're KILLER together.
