hello, so I am impetuous and not very knowledgable. I got a hold of a Gallien Krueger 2001RB. then I got 2 410 cabs (800w 8 ohm) sounds good mostly but when i play more than one string I get a horrific vibration out of the speakers. they dont seem to be blown. Im not sure what I am doing wrong. any help will be appreciated (if i am posting in the wrong section please let me know)
How are you hooking the cabs up to the amp? Is the amp set to "Bridged or Dual Mono" with the switch on the back of the amp.
I have it hooked up to bridged. I though that if i did it that way it would be pushing 640W at 8 ohms to the cabinets.
With amp in Bridged mode (switch on the back) ONLY use the left amp outputs and the two cabs will have 1080 watts available to them. Two 8 ohm cabs on the same amp side equals a 4 ohm load.
yeah i have it on the left outputs. I read the manual. dont know if i understand all of it. I have a GK 410 MBE and Peave 410 headliner hooked up to it. both 800watts 8 ohm cabs. well 800watt program, 400 watt rms 1600 peak
If this is a used amp lets make sure both amp sides are okay. Put the amp in "Dual mono" and try each cab one at a time on each side (left then right). That way we will know if both cabs are good and if both amp sides are good. You have read through the "getting started" section so you are not just distorting the preamp (input gain).
So....you play more than one string huh....trying to start a revolution? I usually set my input at 9am. Anything after 12 o'clock sounds funny with my active bass. What kind of vibration noise does it sound like? My 2001rb actually makes a vibration high pitch noise on the A string only. I put an Auralex in between the amp and speakers. Haven't happen since.
Thanks for the reply's I will look at this later today and get back to you. by horrible vibration I mean the sound gets real distorted and it almost seems like the speaker is blown. that's what I though at first and i pulled one of the speakers out and it is fine. i thought one side at a time on mono was fine but i will check again and also reread the getting started section.
I think the EQ was part of it. and maybe the speakers were not the best match. I changed out to an old 80s AMpeg 2x15 cab and now there are no issues. thanks everyone for your help
