O.K., I want to build a custom Jazz.

    - 5A Quilt, Cherry Burst (Black edges, Cherry, Yellow/Amber center) over Swamp Ash.
    - Maple Neck & Headstock.
    - Black Knobs to body, no panel.
    - Pickup Guard will be Tortoise (I Love) or Clear (to not hide quilt).

    Thinking 2 ways...
    1. Chrome Bridge & Neck Pickup Guard, Ebony Board & Headstock Veneer, Chrome Tuners
    2. Black Bridge & Neck Pickup Guard, Maple Board & Headstock, Black Tuners

Do you prefer #1 or #2? Which color Pickguard?

Or would you do something else entirely(but keeping the Cherry Burst Body, Maple Neck/Headstock, Pickup Guard, & Pickguard)?

  2. hmmm. (trying to picture a jazz bass with a pickguard but no control plate...)

i kinda like the idea of #2 personally

Quilted maple top, cherry burst finish
    Maple neck, maple fingerboard
    All black hardware
    Clear pickguard...better yet, no pickguard.

    That's my vote!

    Like this bad boy...

I'm just thinking to show as much of the quilt as possible by eliminating the control panel. I'd have the pickguard cut so that it was rounded at the place that the panel would normally fit. I think angles would look odd.

Cherry burst!! Mmmmm... :D But with pickguard? :scowl:
I think a maccasar ebony fb and black hardware would look great with it :)

    Pickguard...yeah, well...I'll use a pick sometimes, too.

Yeah...I thought about all black hardware w/ebony board & ebony headstock veneer, but thought it might be overkill w/black, & also thought shiny ebony w/flat hardware might not work too well together.

What's your opinion of the shiny/flat thing?

I like the configuration as shown in the pic in Appler's post. I can go for chrome or black hardware, but I'm kinda partial to the chrome. I'm a sucker for a quilted maple cherryburst top.
