I´m not sure of how attractive a tungoiled bassbody looks. So please post som pics of it as this would save me a lot of money on my Warmoth project.

What body wood are you considering? It will make a difference in appearance.

Carl Tmompson almost always uses oil finishes. these days he uses watco oil, but i think he had uses tung oil.
i believe Darrin at www.dhuffguitars.com uses tung oil as well.
both sites have killer pics of these guys' killer basses (with oil finishes)

Either Ash or Walnut. Haven´t made up my mind yet. But at least it will be a wood that looks good with a natural finish.

Here's a pic of my Ash Jazz that I tung-oiled about 13 years ago. As you can see from the wear spot, the tung oil that I used added a yellowish tint. There may be some clearer tung oils out there that wont yellow it as much, I'm not really sure. Also, the tung oil made the bass smell for a couple of years, now it doesn't smell.

My black korina Gecko has an oil finish with some wipe-on satin polyurethane over it for extra protection. Still pretty easy to do and looks natural....

Those are some great looking basses, guys!
What´s the process to get a bass to look that good? Are there any step by step instructions for oil available somewhere on the internet?

Like I always say, the best directions for tung oil are...... on the can! Nothing particularly different about a guitar - you finish it just like you would a chair or a table.

It's an Acacia custom 4 fretless.
The top photo is from yesterday, with a fresh re-oiling. The bottom one is a while ago (perhaps half a year or so), it is a little less shiny and a little more pale. I usually oil it once a year (around Christmas) but this time it has been probably 18 months ago. Not that the bass looks bad after 18 months, but a new oil job makes it look brand new! :)

There are more photos available here. (please be patient, these pictures are hosted on an ADSL connection with 128bkps (I think) upload speed...) :rollno:
