hey all. i've been selected as the bassist for my school's jazz band. i play the electric bass but have always wanted to play the double. know that i'm in the music program, i have access to the couple of double basses the school owns. i've read other threads here about technique and how you should hold, but i just don't seem to be plucking correctly. i'm not getting a big sound when i pluck, so can anyone explain to me how to pluck? thanx.

  2. JUMBO, My guess is you're probably not getting a full sound because you're plucking the string as you would a Bass Guitar. You neet to get some more flesh on the string, not just your fingertips. There are many variations, but try using more of the side of your index and/or middle finger when you play pizz.

ooh ooh ooh, i can be first:

    You should find a teacher.

Because we can try to help you a bit through this forum, but a lot of what you're going to encounter will be much better accomplished by an experienced bass player in the room with you who can see what you're doing and direct you towards the correct way.
