In addition to a light cab for my quiet jazz gigs, I'm also looking for a lighter power amp for my loud gigs. Depending on what's being used in the pa, I've been toting around an old crown or peavy amp that both weigh a ton. The 2 amps I've narrowed it down to are the QSC PLX 1202 or the Carvin DCM 1000. Any thoughts, pro or con on these?
The PLX is 21 pounds, two rack spaces. But, I would opt for the PLX-2402 or higher, due to superior output class circuitry.
I've had good success with the Stewart PA-1000(the newer model is the World 1.2). 1 rack space, 11 lbs. Great sound.
Thanks for tips folks. I appreciate that I should buy more power than I need, but the 1k watters should do for me. 700 watts into 8 ohms will be fine for my old Goliath 1 (400 watts), it's a pretty sensitive cab. I power it with just my studio 220 (140 watts into 8) on nights when I'm going into the mains and it's plenty loud for a monitor.
