Pole pieces not centered over strings

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by Davidoc, Jun 10, 2002.

  1. I recently noticed that the strings on my Musicman Stingray 5 are not lined up over the polepieces. Their off center, significantly off center. They all are over the pole pieces, but just barely.

Is this a bad thing? Is it normal? What should I do?

    Thanks!

It's better that they be centered but they do work. I have a couple of 97 MIA Jazz Deluxe 5 basses with the single pole pieces. The only issue I have with them is that you can bend the strings far enough away from the pole pieces to actually experience a drop in volume.

  3. Thanks for the information. Is it a problem or defect?

On the Stingray, I guess that you could consider it a defect, but they are all that way, so don't count on EB fixing it.

It can cause the G string to be noticeably quieter than the others, and Bartolini makes a MM pickup with bar polepieces designed to remedy this problem.

IMO neither... it's a small limitation.
