...Wouldn't it be better to move them to the lounge than just to close them? E.g. Cass's thread about his letter to Mr Bush.

I hope this doesn't count as "questioning moderator decisions in public". Just making a suggestion, really.

How many times do I have to tell you MM, you're not a troll, get over it.

Moley, This is exactly what I was thinking too when a couple recent threads were locked.

    I didn't claim to be a troll.

I just thought openly questioning mods was one of my responsibilities.

The the thread about the letter to Bush contains posts by non supporting members - they can't post in the lounge. I don't think it would work, or else all non supporting members' posts would have to be removed from said thread so that it could be moved to the lounge...sounds like too much work and it still wouldn't be completely fair. Closing the threads is the right thing to do. If you want to post something that could become political, post it in the lounge to begin with or be ready for it to get closed.(IMO)

  8. I do not see the problem with political threads anyway. I think it's a few members whinging on that they're offended (too easily offended, apparently) ruining it for the majority.

So what if people argue? That's life!! Most of us are adults, just grow up and get on with it. They're only words after all. In any case, the few disagreements I've had have ended with mutual apologies for frayed tempers and an agreement to disagree.

Give it a chance guys. Go on - you know you want to.

  13. It's the name I use on all other forums, so I changed it here for consistency.

FWIW, Komakino is female :) or at least she is whenever I'm playing Unreal Tournament! It means (so I've been told) "Small grassy pasture" in Japanese.

  14. My opinion is that the talkbass off topic forum has gone down hill a lot since we stopped having any form of political thread. chat just doesnt seem as good.

(I'm just wondering how many people are now gonna tell me to leave or start some more interesting threads.)

Yeah, I'm fed up with political threads, I'm glad that they aren't allowed in general OT.

every other forum I visit that allow political threads, it's just chaos, practically every thread, someone spits on someone elses political leanings, and if it's not that, it's their religon, or their beliefs of any sort, or their taste.

TB is like a sanctuary, and a darn good one at that.

  20. But surely the point is, if you don't like them don't join in! There's no one forcing you to click the link to a political discussion! Let those you want to join in, and you keep your distance!
