when i played my Squier with a big AMPEG amp
it sounded really nice and juicy.
When i cranked the BASS on my SansAmp the sound
    was really dark.
So i realise that the AMP and the preamp
CAN REALLY SHAPE the SOUND of my average bass.
(as it isnt a bad bass.... )
To get a desirable live sound :
How important is the (pre)amp on % according to u?
How important is the bass guitar % to you ?
    To me :
    (Pre)amp : % 60 or even 70
and bass guitar : % 40 or 30 (if it is not plywood)

  2. I'd say it's about 75% amp and 25% the bass itself.

A high end bass can only sound as good as the amp it's going through, but, a very good amp can make an ordinary bass sound much better.

Good bass + good amp = the best way to go. (naturally)
