Pope Preamp/ EMG Pups

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by MichaelSmalley, Aug 2, 2012.

  1. My main axe is an '08 American Deluxe Jazz V... I like it, but the tone can be a bit bland. I'm thinking of replacing the pups with EMG's and the Preamp with a Mike Pope one. I think I would end up with a Marcus Miller-looking bass because of all the knobs and switches on the pope preamp.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of switch? Is it worth it?

The Pope preamp can be configured in a number of different ways. You could simply stick with a 4 knob setup with no switches if you wanted to maintain a stock appearance.

I'm not a fan of EMG jazz pickups though, at least not the bridge pickups which are really thin and anemic sounding. They sound fine with both pickups on full but if you solo the bridge pickup expect to use a lot of eq to make it sound good.
