Alright, so I bought a 1991-1992 74' Reissue MIJ Fender Jazz from a fellow TBer a few weeks ago. The nut was chipped, which he told me about. I got it into the shop to fix the nut and some tone knob problems. Anyhow, I've got the bass back. It has a Badass II bridge and Dimarzio pickups. For some reason, the E string plays louder than the rest. Its not even the low sounds, its just that string. The A string low sounds are the same as anything else, except the E string. In addition, slapping the E string and even a bit on other strings makes a popping noise like I'm slapping right over the pickup. Problem is, it makes that sound no matter where I thump. Its a real problem. Anyhow, the bridge pickup is a lot closer to the strings than the other pickup. I tried to screw it in more but it... doesn't go. I don't wanna strip out the little screws, but it seems like its... screwed in all the way. So I'm not sure if that's the problem but I suppose I could take it off and then put it back on....? Anyhow, if you folks need pictures I can post 'em. What do i do?! Do I get it in the shop and let THEM deal with it? Do I need new pickups?
Hi, I'm sure your problem is that the pole pieces are too close to the string and you are actually hitting them with the string. You should be able to adjust the pole pieces with an allen wrench. Once you lower them to below the pick- up cover , the problem should go away. Good luck!
