Popping sound

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by bmb73, Jul 9, 2013.

  1. Was playing through my Ampeg Micro Vr. The only thing I can think of that it sounds like is an intermittent popping/crackling sound.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Gain or overall volume too hot? What cab(s) are you using?

  3. It's the SVT 210. I will try and adjust the gain and volume, thanks for the help. Now I feel really stupid for asking lol.

On a rig that new I would wager either your cable (either bass or speaker) or the jack on your bass would be the problem before the amp would. Still just a guess though. Try different basses and/or cables and report back please.

No problem ;) Better to ask than go on not knowing. That may or may not be the problem, but just thought I'd throw that out there. It's a likely candidate, though. You can push the gain pretty hard in the Micro VR, but you do get diminishing returns past a certain point where it just gets clippy instead of the nice overdrive. And when micros reach their power limits, it can sound very unpleasant indeed. Miro VR's really nice for $300 and I use one a lot, but it can't work miracles.
