I started as a guitarist when I was kid, and back in the early 80's scraped up money doing a paper route to buy a Kay Vanguard solidbody electric with a matching amp. It played terrible, sounded worse, but it was an electric and the price was right for my budget: $50 bucks for the combo from a local "Want-Ad" weekly classified publication. {}
Even if they did, I would take the pic of my first (Fender P knockoff) and throw darts at it until the cows came home... to this day, I'm not even sure what finally happened to it... ... and yet, I still feel proud of the effort I put forth that summer, earning enough to buy it myself...

Woops! I thought it said first best instrument, hahah my actual first instrument is a homemade P Bass made from American fender parts with a Seymore Duncan Pickup. Made it with my dad who's a well known bassist in the area, just a regular looking P bass black with a white pickguard {}
