My BXT cabs (sold the 115 recently)

The rack consists of an Ampeg B2R (preamp out) into a QSC RMX1450.

My latest aquisition, and something I hope to keep till I'm an old fart (no offense, to the TB elders ;) ).... my Ampeg Vintage V4B
  3. did the 15 sound better on top of the 4x10?

I heard it would be a "different" sound... so I went ahead and tried it, and it really isnt all that great... but that was just for me. Mostly what is changes is the perception of what your hearing as you stand in front of it. Your tone sounds a lot fatter and such, but that wasnt the main purpose for my 115. I really enjoyed it for situations where we had to play a bigger place, and I needed more low end. In that situation, I'd rather have it on the bottom.

But... I tried switching and putting it on top, and I ended up leaving it there simply because we started using only the 410 at shows, because it was enough... and I wanted the 410 on Casters (cuz its damn heavy).

I don't own any Ampeg bass gear any longer (just a wonderful 50 watt VL-502 guitar head), but here's a great Ampeg bass amp picture...

The 810 doesn't actually belong to me, but I can use it whenever I want. It belongs to my buddy's backline rental company. I rent them my head for a good price and in return I can use anything they have pretty much any time. It's a sweet arrangement.

That 810 is about the same age as my head (1976) and compares quite favourably to the Berg. The Berg wins because it managed to pretty much capture the tone in a smaller, lighter package. ;)

Still, there's nothing quite like an old SVT/810.
  16. Bit of treason going on here-a s I much prefer Gallien Kruegers heads as opposed to Ampeg's, especially Ampeg's MOSFET powered units- they aint so good... Now an all tube SVT thats mouth watering- btu I cant afford that, not if brought from in Australia anyways...

So here is my semi Ampeg rig. It consists of an Ampeg SVT 410He Cabinet- which I love the sound of, but it needs one new speaker. And a Gallien Krueger 800RB head. The super cleen head goes well with the Ampeg cabinet- which gives a little overdrive to the sound; sounds nice.

I should add I got the SVT Cabinet cheap too, second hand- I have no idea how old it is, but on the back it says it's a 200w model; which may provide some clue- It's a great sounding cabient, cant wait to get the new speaker.

Mmmm, i'm gas'ing for some old SVT stuff now.. Gotta wait though.

I think i'd get a Berg 610 shipped over here though, instead of an Ampeg fridge. Then pair it up with the V8 or a Vintage SVT if I could find one..
  18. 2000 Ampeg SVT-3 Pro. Traded it in after two years of excellent work. I'm playing a Trace Elliot V8 now, but someday I also want an Ampeg SVT Classic (blueline...)
