Power amp question - stereo/mono

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by robd, May 5, 2004.

  1. Hopefully this is not too dumb but here goes...

Can you use just one side of a stereo power amp or do you have to run it bridged if you want mono output?

I'm thinking about going to a pre amp/power amp setup and would like to be able to haul just one speaker to small gigs/rehearsal and run it thru one side of the amp. Then I can bi-amp 2 cabinets, one thru each channel, for more sound when needed for larger places.

Is it ok to run just one side of a power amp??

You can run one side only.

  3. Hey, Blister, thanks for the quick reply.

That's what I thought but I've thought other wrong things before so I figured it better to ask.

    One more question...

Can I run one side at 4 ohms and one side at 8ohms at the same time??

Yes. With two separate channels you can use different signals, loads impedances, whatever.

  5. Thanks for the reply. Seeing as I'm going for a QSC amp seems you are the man right to answer my question.

    Thanks

    Rob

BTW - can you get me any deals?? ;)

Oh well, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask

Thanks to all for the help guys.
