power amps - can I run 1 ch @ 8ohms, the other at 4?

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by peteroberts, Nov 26, 2004.

  1. I am wondering, before I hook it up, can I use a stereo amp with one channel seeing an 8 ohm load, the other channel at 4 ohms? I want to use channel 1 of my power amp to power 2 1x15 cabs (4 ohms total); channel 2 will run a single 2x10 (8 ohms). Is this OK (to have different impedances running stereo?)

    Sure, no problem.

Are you sure on that 2x10, it's 8 ohms? Just curious, mosf of 'em are either 4 or 16. :)

Yes. You can operate the two channels as if they are independent, because they are.

Hmmmm.... are you sure? I've not seen a 16 ohm 2x10 bass cab.
