Power Transformers sources? For a vintage Ampeg SVT

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by CzarMike, Feb 3, 2004.

  1. My tech gave me the bad news yesterday, the vintage svt i bought off ebay came with a blown power transformer!!!! Now I'm scrambling because my project just jumped significantly in price. The best deal on a transformer I've found so far is $225 + 20 shipping via fliptops.com
Anyone have a cheaper source? I'm on a very tight budget all the sudden :)
    Thanks a million,
    Mike

  2. You can get it rewound for much cheaper than buying a new one. Heyboer did one for for Rickenbackerman and actually beefed it up for him to turn his SVT into a bigger firebreather.

Mercury quoted me an absolutely outrageous price to rewind my '74 PT.

Heyboer rewound mine *cheap* and beefed it up in the process - more screen voltage! I haven't gotten the amp up and running yet, though... too busy working on my '72 Rick 4001 project.

My advice would be to talk to Phil at Heyboer. htovvp@novagate.net
