I play in a four-piece R&B/rock group - drums, bass, and 2 guitarists with Fender Deluxe Reverbs (2 vocalists among us). We practice in a medium sized room - nothing special acoustically.

When we set up, I always suggest putting the amps and PA in front of us - putting us in the place of the audience, so to speak, so the sound is both balanced and a reasonable volume, without having to run monitors everywhere. Seems only to make sense to me, but the others can't seem to leave the invisible umbilical cords chaining them to their amps.

How do you usually set up in such situations?
