So, after some consideration and discussion with some builders, I decided to place an order with Oscar Prat. His customer service, even before I paid him any money, was awesome. He found two amazing Koa tops before I even agreed to the order and found two beautiful tops and sent me pics. I can't say enough about his interaction and customer service. After about 3 days of back and forth emails I decided he was the right guy for this project. I wanted to do a build thread, because the bass is slated for me to pick up at Summer NAMM this year.

I am beyond excited about this build and working with such a great luthier like Oscar.

    Specs:
    -Prat M-BSV 5 string
    -33" scale
-Ebony fingerboard, 28 frets, side dots
-3 pieces laminate neck, curly maple
-Swamp ash body, 2 pieces (center line)
    -Master grade koa top
-Koa headstock top matching body top
-Swamp ash ramp with koa top matching body top
-Swamp ash knobs with koa top matching body top
-2 custom nordstrand DC (for 17mm string spacing) under the ramp
    -switch series/single/parallel for each pickup
-Noll 4 band preamp with volume, balance, passive tone, treble/bass, hi mids/low mids, passive/active puss/pull
-Hipshot A style bridge, black, 17mm string spacing
    -Hipshot ultralite tuners, black
    -Ebony nut
    -Ebony Prat logo inlay
    -Satin finish
    -Polyfoam hard case

This sounds like it will be an incredible bass. Love the specs, and that sick koa top!

Thanks guys... A little bit of a hiccup, as that top was actually already spoken for. Oscar worked all Sunday to find a bunch more and sent me tons of pics. This is the one I chose. I can't say enough good things about Oscar's customer sevice. The guy is really going the extra mile for me on thei build.

Also, if you haven't seen Oscar's basses, this is the body shape.

Agreed with emjazz. The new top is more interesting with the color variation. Nice nice nice!

Thanks guys, it's definitely more of what I wanted. Oscar was sending me pictures all day on Sunday (which I'm sure is his day off). I'm so glad he found that one though, I love the color variation and stripe.

Not my type of body style, but holy hell! That there is some nice wood, that will surely make a kickasstic bass! (And the builder sounds damn kewl, too!)

Yeah man, its the Hawaiian Islands. The inspiration for the build is the beauty of Hawaiian Koa Ukuleles. I decided I couldn't justify spending the money to get a real one, so I decided to do something better (on an instrument I can actually play).
